About The Panther Project
Pomperaug High school values the academic and co-curricular performance
of their students. Launched in 2007 by a dedicated team of adults, our team is
already starting to soar.
We are a very committed team, with an enrolment of 8 students, with the drive to compete, and to help the community. The Panther Project is founded on 3 principles: community, education, and teamwork. We are confident this year and all the years to come will be filled with fun-filled learning and great insight into the real world.
We have just completed our 2008 - 2009 season and we all have enjoyed it immensely. We attended a scrimmage in Connecticut just days before the shipping day, and placed in the first half of the 40 odd teams competing that day. This day showed us just how challenging this task of building a robot and getting it to hold together really was, better yet, it sparked our excitement and enthusiasm, for the bigger deal at the Hartford convention center. So we spent the last few days before ship day building and rebuilding various parts of the robot, so that it was the best it could ever be in the time we had (That being only six weeks)
We arrived at the competition all rearing to go, and to win. we spend the 3 days competing and having fun, winning and losing. At the end of the 3rd day, we were all very tiered, but no less enthusiastic, we competed in the last two matches and achieved a lot. In the end we placed 29th out of 62 teams!! amazing!! we had done so well. even though we were not picked for an alliance, we had won inin the sense that we had had fun, learnt all that we could, and built a stronger of high school students. Over the whole build season and competitions the team had learnt so much, we learnt how to work together, we learnt many robot building techniques, how to talk to businesses, and the most important, the values of FIRST and it's amazing community.
We haven't finished for this year though, we hope to be going all year round, to prepare ourselves for next year and to keep learning new things.
FOR 15
The panther project is part of FOR 15 which stands for "friends of region 15". This group is the supporting community behind the 2 FIRST programs established in school Region District 15. FOR 15 was established by the same dedicated members who set up the individual programs, FRC, FLL, JFLL.
